Design Theme Consultancy

Upon request, NAVTECH in close collaboration with the Owner can perform a detailed analysis of the main characteristics, such as functional requirements, environmental conditions, dimensional constraints, establishing the following information : ship type, cargo capacity (or other characteristics: bollard pull, fire fighting power, ice breaking capacity, etc.), preliminary main dimensions, speed, autonomy, crew and other particularities depending on the project.

Concept Design

Starting from design theme NAVTECH will develop the concept design of the ship through a process that includes: identification of applicable Rules and Regulations, assigning of class notation, hull form definition, hydrostatic data, freeboard and subdivision, propulsion arrangement, hull scantling and lightweight, intact and damage stability.

At this stage of design NAVTECH will focus on the optimization of the cost-benefit ratio and after consulting the Owner, the most suitable solutions for the project will be adopted.

The output of our concept design includes the following documents:

General Arrangement Plan 2D (3D artistic impression)
Outline specification of the vessel
Main equipment list
Weight list

Based on the above information and the maker list, the ship cost estimation can be provided to our Client.

Basic Design

Based on the concept design elaborated by us or received from the Client, NAVTECH is able to provide all technical documentation needed for class approval, including:

Building Specification, General arrangement, Tank Plan
Watertight integrity plan, Freeboard plan, Damage control plan, Fire integrity plan
Propulsion calculation and arrangement
Stability booklet - intact and damage
Loading manual
Hull (Scantling calculation and Finite element analysis, Main construction plans)
Deck systems (Anchoring, Moring systems, Lifesaving arrangements etc.)
Doors and hatches plan
Piping systems (P&ID for all systems, including all calculation needed, pressure drop analysis)
HVAC (HVAC general arrangement, Heat balance calculation, Air pipe distribution)
Machinery (Engine rooms layouts, Propulsion arrangement, Exhaust and ventilation arrangement)
Electrical (Load balance, Main one line diagram, Main cable tray arrangement, Cable diagram, Short circuit calculation etc.)
Tests and trials procedures (SAT, HAT)

The basic design project will be developed in order to comply with the requirements of classification societies, flag regulations and other related authorities according to each project.

During this design phase, NAVTECH will implement proper solutions in order to reduce the cost of construction and equipment & systems maintenance, while ensuring the best functionality and safety in ship operation. Also, in this stage the necessary technical support will be provided to guide the procurement of the main equipment.

Detail Design

Detail design and engineering will be accomplished in accordance with Yard standards and based on basic design documentation developed by us or delivered by the Client.

Modernization And Conversion Of Ships

NAVTECH will provide design services for different ship modifications, such as:

Modifying existing vessels in order to comply with actual Rule requirements (ballast water treatment, exhaust gas treatment, bilge/sludge segregation, etc.)
Upgrading existing vessels with new capabilities and functionalities
Conversion to other cargo type, navigation area
Changing ship capabilities and/or class notation

Research

Our team of specialists has gained experience from several research projects carried out on different topics, such as: hydrodynamics, structural analysis, exhaust gas treatment technologies, LNG fueled inland navigation ships and others.
